Classroom Performance System



The Classroom Performance System (CPS) allows you to:
  • Construct, organize, and deliver your own interactive set of questions
  • Create review materials for delivery in a competitive, fun, and fast-paced learning environment
  • Print questions in traditional paper format
  • Receive instant feedback, grade homework, review and tests
  • Generate detailed reports about how each student did in class

Create a New Database - a Database is like a filing drawer to hold many lessons in one subject
  1. Go to Start>All Programs>CPS>cps.exe
  2. The first time you open CPS, you will receive a message that says, "The last known CPS file has either been moved or... blah...blah....blah..."
  3. Click New.
  4. A New CPS Database dialog box appears.
  5. In the File Name text box, type the name for the database you are creating.
  6. Click Save, and wait while CPS processes your request.

Set Up Your Class
  1. Under the Prepare Tab - Classes and Students button - Click "New - Class".
  2. Fill out the online form.
  3. Under the Prepare Tab - Classes and Students button - Click "New - Student".
  4. Press the enter key to add additional student.

Create Lessons - Many lessons make up a database. The lesson is what you "engage" with your class.
  1. Under the Prepare Tab - Lessons and Assessments - click "New - Lesson".
  2. Title your lesson.

Create Lesson Questions
  1. From the Prepare tab - Lessons and Assignments, highlight a lesson nameon the left side. The question side should be empty.
  2. Click the New button that has a question mark icon. The new question button bar appears over the right side of the window in vertical view. The Question Author window opens.
  3. Click the drop-down arrow in the Template box to see the list of question templates.
  4. Type the question in the question text box of the template.
  5. Type multiple answers in the answer boxes of the template.
  6. Select a correct answer by clicking in the check box beside that answer.
  7. Use the toolbar in the upper left corner of the Question Author window to save the question.
  8. Repeat for as many questions as you want to add to the lesson.
  9. When you have finished adding questions. click Question in the menu above the toolbar, and then Save and Close.
  10. All questions appear in the question side of the Lessons tab.

Adding Graphics to Questions

  1. Right click inside the graphic area and a dialog box called Set Image Files opens. Choose Browse.
  2. Use the Look in drop-down list at the top of the dialog box to browse to the directory where you saved your graphic files.
  3. Highlight a graphic file that you want to display in this graphic area.
  4. Click the Open button.
  5. Click the File menu and the Save command or click the Save and Move to Next Question icon from the Question Author toolbar.

Engage!
You can deliver lessons to students in a mode that requres their feeback via the CPS response system. CPS saves this feedback, or performance data, in the open database so you can access it later for evaluation.


  1. Start the CPS software.
  2. Under the Engage tab - Lessons and Assessments, click the box beside the lesson you want to engage.
  3. Click the Engage-Teach button.
  4. Click the Engage button.
  5. Click the Start button to allow the students to record their responses.
